Revision ?

Ever been told by teachers or peers that you ‘should be revising by now’ ? I always used to think what do you actually mean by revision? Well, by a dictionary the definition of revision is “study of work you have done, in order to prepare for an exam” which honestly, doesn’t exactly help. So, I’m gunna give u some tips of what I’ve done for revision over the many years I’ve been revising for exams. These methods are what works for me and the trick with revision is to try everything till you find something that suits you.

Okay so..

  • Posters

I’m a visual learner, I did lots of biology and subjects that require diagrams so most of my revision is done surrounding drawings and making things look pretty. Posters can be really helpful especially stuck around your room as you will be subconsciously looking at them throughout the day.

  • Flashcards

These are small usually the size of half an A5 piece of paper. They involve summing up the information you’ve just read/noted/put in a poster into a small sentence with a key word. Flashcards are really useful for people to test you on too.

  • Good ol’ fashioned note taking

This one is a tough one because personally I can’t sit in front of a text book and take notes, I get bored and end up copying sentences down. BUT for some of you this would be perfect, it involves you reading the information then probably re-reading to take down notes so you’ve then been over the piece of information 3+ times already, helping you remember it. Notes can be pretty too!

  • Online Tests

A website I was introduced to in Year 11 at school was Quizlet we used it for remembering GCSE history dates but I’ve figured out as years have gone on with more boring revision sessions that you can actually use other people’s quizzes for any subject, biology, history, english.  It involves online flashcards simply, but they give you games to play and small quizzes all surrounding the information you input onto those flashcards, and theres an iPhone app – no more excuses!

  • Past Papers

This was the one I hated the most, but its actually the most useful. There will be past papers for almost every single exam you are about to take and honestly they are invaluable, I used to revise using posters and flashcards then do a past paper at the end of it to see how much I’d taken in from my revision and then anything I though I had missed, go over again. They’re boring and tedious sometimes but you aren’t timed so unless you’re working on time management in an exam you could do a question a day for example or half a paper one day the other half another day, its completely up to you!

FINALLY, timing. Revision can seem like you need to be sat in your bedroom at your desk all day with no breaks slogging away writing notes. In reality your brain works much better if you work in bursts of 30 minutes then have a 5 minute (social media/texting) break. It refreshes you and you will be less tired. Revision all day isn’t always the best idea, so try and get out even for a walk around the block or for a coffee with your friend.

I hope these tips are useful to some of you, good luck with all your mocks and exams!

The one with the Desk

So, Ive neglected this blog for quite a while. Uni has been a whole new experience to get my head around but I now am more organised and am going to try again. Starting with my newly organised desk. I recently got a few things and decided in the new year to keep my desk simple and minimal, and thought I would share it with you. Let me know what you think !

Little place on the Internet

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

I like the idea of having somewhere to write but the thing is, I’ve been searching the internet for ‘first blog post ideas’ for about half an hour now and I can’t seem to find anything I’d wanna write about. So I figured it’ll be easier just to tell you what I do like instead.

I like clothes, asos searching has become a daily habit for me these days. Although my saved list has become slightly out of control and definitely not good for my bank account..

I’m a student and I actually like studying (weirdo, right?) Im going to be a student nurse so am making the most of sleeping and having free time at the moment.

Sleeping ,thats another one of my favourite things. I have the comfiest bed and pride myself in making it look as insta-worthy as possible.. hence the photo.

I like baking, cupcakes, cookies (I would recommend Tanya Burr’s recipe’s) anything chocolatey to satisfy my insanely unhealthy sweet tooth.

I like walks and picnics, which may not feature much on this blog seeing as here in England our very short and sweet summer has pretty much ended now. But that means autumn is here which makes me very happy.. Hot chocolates, cosy jumpers, what more could you want?

So, in a nutshell this little place on the internet could include any of those things, or something completely different.. just to surprise you. Happy reading!
